Is Haggis Pizza Taking Over the World?

Since our recent post about Pizza Express launching a Haggis-topped pizza at its Scottish outlets we have been inundated by our readers with tales of the ubiquity of this product. It seems to be part of the staple Scottish diet - and why not?

Here is a picture sent in by Cameron from Auchterarder of Cosmo's Frozen Haggis Pizza.

And it would appear that takeaways up and down the "Auld Country" feature Haggis Pizza as a mainstream offering.

Indeed KFB in St Andrews, where Prince William went to University and is cosidered the Home of Golf, also offers a Chocolate Pizza (more soon) as well as the world famous Deep-fried Mars Bar

Additionally, we find out that this taste-tastic 'Scozzese' pizza is available at The Loft in Ashton Lane, Glasgow.

Many thanks to blogger Paul for bringing this one to our attention. Taste-tastic, eh

And finally, The Village Fish & Chip Shop 33 High Street Aberlady, East Lothian Tel. 01875 870 686 is world renowned for being the friendliest establishment in the town.

The Aberlady Chip shop has been well known in East Lothian for about 40 years. The business is owned by Adrian Melville and his partner Doris Ortner and they have been running the business successfully for the last 4 years.
As well as their quality Fish and Chips (always freshly cooked) their homemade pizzas are always in demand. They do Haggis Pizza which is very popular. Their shop has also got an Off-license and they sell Di Rollos ice cream and some groceries. And if a good Fish supper or Pizza and a nice bottle of wine is not good enough you can join their Video club and rent one of the latest new releases. Heaven - pizza, wine and a video

Churchgoers get Pot with their Pizza

An Alabama church group got the shock of their lives when they found marijuana in their pizza.

It happened at a youth outing in Florence the day before Thanksgiving, and police still aren't sure where the pot came from. The pizza came from a Papa John's restaurant in Florence.

The district office for Papa John's issued this press release:"We have been notified by the Florence police of a possible incident of product tampering with a pizza order on November 21st, where a customer claims to have discovered marijuana on his pizza. We have investigated internally and have no reason to believe that the product tampering occurred at our restaurant or by any of our employees. We take great pride in serving a high-quality product to our customers and in our 12 years of serving the Florence community have never had an incident like this. We are cooperating with the police in their processes to get to the bottom of this claim."

Authorities did say an off duty Florence Police Officer ordered the pizza. "I don't believe at this time they knew it was a police officer who ordered it," said Sgt. Rolando Bogran, of the Florence Police Department.

According to the FPD, it was not until the pizza was already eaten that someone realized there was something in it. Forensic testing has been ordered to get official certified results. "Whatever the outcome of the investigation, it will be bad, we are talking about a local restaurant, it hurts the community, hurts everyone, but most of all some people could have been hurt in the incident," said Sgt. Brogan. Several of the youth who ate the pizza were taken to the hospital to be checked out. None were found to have ill effects of eating the pizza."

Haggis-topped Pizzas in Scotland

Pizza Express is creating haggis-topped pizzas in a bid to regionalise menus across its British restaurant chain. Exclusive to Scottish branches of the restaurant, the Scotia pizza will comprise leeks, garlic, tomatoes, mozzarella and seasonings alongside the portion of haggis.

The haggis for the topping will be supplied by Macsween, a third generation haggis manufacturer which uses a traditional family recipe for its products. For its meat haggis, it uses a combination of lamb, beef, oatmeal, onion, and a special blend of seasoning and spices, cooked together in a natural casing and for the vegetarian version, kidney beans, lentils, nuts and vegetables are cooked in a man-made casing.

Rory Scott from Pizza Express told MeatInfo.co.uk: "Sales of Pizza Scotia have been really good and have doubled since the start of January.

"The arrival of the haggis pizza was pre-empted by a special edition Taste of Caledonia pizza with a haggis topping. It was made for Morrisons in Aberdeen to celebrate the Italy against Scotland World Cup qualifier back in September.

Pizza Tattoo Man Cheesed Off

COLIN Helsby thought he had a head for business, when he had a slice of pizza tattoo'd on his head in March 2007 to both raise money for Cystic Fibrosis and to promote the launch of his new pizza takeaway, Crusties, in Penmaenmawr, Conwy, North Wales.

He had been a butcher for almost 30 years, but competition from supermarkets meant he decided to convert his store into a pizza takeaway.

Colin initially raised over £500 and hoped that donations would continue from customers who came into his shop and saw the tattoo. He hoped that the sight of the Ham & Pineapple pizza would be so mouth-watering that it would drive sales through the roof.

It could not fail. But then it did. Mr Helsby’s business in Wales has unfortunately crashed through lack of – get this – “dough”.

Mr Helsby is now back at his old job as a supermarket butcher. That’s him over there in the pork pie hat.

Hell Pizza Give Hitler the Boot

Adolf Hitler PizzaThe New Zealand-based Hell pizza chain has had to remove its billboards of Hitler saluting with a pizza slice after complaints from the Jewish community.

The chain, which has had a string of complaints about its advertising, including a condom mailout last year, said the Hitler billboards in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch were meant to lampoon Hitler rather than be offensive.

The Nazi leader is shown in a Heil Hitler salute with pizza in his hand, next to his quote: "It is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell."

The Hitler billboard in Christchurch's Lincoln Road was replaced with another one in the chain's famous-quotes campaign – Pope Benedict saying "Hell is real and eternal".

Kirk MacGibbon, from Cinderella, the Auckland agency that handles the chain's advertising, said he had received three complaints from Jewish people in Auckland who were offended by the Hitler billboard.

Some had lost family members in the Holocaust.

"We hoped we could get away with people seeing Hitler with a piece of pizza would be funny," MacGibbon said.

"We do recognise there were some horrendous things done and if people are not seeing it as lampooning, we are dealing with a slightly different animal and we will back down."

German-born Christchurch resident Sussanne Bonnemann complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after seeing the Hitler billboard in Addington on Saturday.

Tthe billboard was immediately removered and had been covered with another poster.

"I was just shocked," said Bonnemann.

"Obviously, the people behind it, you can see they want to provoke, but that has just gone too far.

"It just shows they have no idea what this man has done and how many people have died under his regime, and it's disrespectful to all their relatives."

Last year, Hell's condom mailout to promote its Lust pizza attracted 685 complaints, and the ASA ruled it had breached standards of decency and social responsibility.

The chain has also received complaints, particularly from conservative groups, about its Hell-O magazine, which featured model Nicky Watson on the cover.

MacGibbon said the agency did not set out to offend or generate publicity with its advertising.

The Hell chain had a fun and controversial style, he said.

"What I would say is meek and mild does not get you media. We aim to create memorability, but to say we like to create public campaigns is not right," he said.

Would you Like a Stiff with your Slice of Pizza?

This story is from Fox News

What’s your favorite pizza topping? Pepperoni? Anchovies? Dead guys?

Unfortunately for pizza lovers in Pennsylvania, a particularly resourceful delivery guy used his car for both of his jobs - as a Domino's Pizza delivery guy and a corpse transporter, the Smoking Gun reports.

Lower Southamton Township Police report that officers flagged down a late model Buick after noticing it didn’t have an inspection sticker.

When the suspicious ride stopped, the officers found that the driver, William Bethel, was driving with a suspended license, so they'd have to impound his ride.

When they had a little look-see in the back of Bethel’s station wagon, they saw a stretcher, some garbage, wet clothing and a pile of piping-hot pizzas waiting to be delivered.

Bethel explained that after he finishes the pizza delivery gig, he transports stiffs in the same car for a funeral home.

But a police check with health officials determined that, though undoubtedly nasty, using the same car to deliver dinner and the deceased did not violate local ordinances.

Cheese 'Crisis' Curdles Profits for Korea's Pizza Makers

Korean pizza restaurants are in the midst of a "cheese crisis", as soaring demand for dairy products in China has the price of cheese sky-rocketing. Unable to bear the increasing costs, a great number of small pizzerias have gone out of business. Many survivors have bkorea pizzaeen forced to hike prices even though they know that will cost them customers.
Cheese distributor Aser Food said that the supplying price of cheese has shot up some 40 percent from W5,500 (US$1=W922) per kg in April to W8,000 in October.

An employee of Seoul Milk, the country¡¯s largest dairy products company, said that China has imported some 50 percent more cheese and milk this year than last year, which has caused a shortage of cheese in the market.

"In addition, a drought in Australia caused a slump in the production of cheese, which has worsened the situation for Korean companies," he added.

Medium-size pizza chains like Papa John's and Pizza Etang have had little choice but to raise their prices by W1,000-2,000 since September. Large chains such as Pizza Hut, Mr. Pizza and Domino's with relatively higher prices have adopted a wait-and-see attitude, although the rising costs have slashed their profits by 20-30 percent.

A Pizza Hut employee said, "In a recent meeting to deal with the problem, we decided to first try to reduce advertising costs and improve management efficiency because a price rise would directly affect sales."

The cheese shortage has also triggered other problems, such as greater circulation of cheese products nearing their expiration dates and more low-quality cheeses made from high percentages of imitation cheese.

An Asel Food employee said that the situation facing the pizza industry is more serious than was the financial crisis of 1997.
