Haggis-topped Pizzas in Scotland

Pizza Express is creating haggis-topped pizzas in a bid to regionalise menus across its British restaurant chain. Exclusive to Scottish branches of the restaurant, the Scotia pizza will comprise leeks, garlic, tomatoes, mozzarella and seasonings alongside the portion of haggis.

The haggis for the topping will be supplied by Macsween, a third generation haggis manufacturer which uses a traditional family recipe for its products. For its meat haggis, it uses a combination of lamb, beef, oatmeal, onion, and a special blend of seasoning and spices, cooked together in a natural casing and for the vegetarian version, kidney beans, lentils, nuts and vegetables are cooked in a man-made casing.

Rory Scott from Pizza Express told MeatInfo.co.uk: "Sales of Pizza Scotia have been really good and have doubled since the start of January.

"The arrival of the haggis pizza was pre-empted by a special edition Taste of Caledonia pizza with a haggis topping. It was made for Morrisons in Aberdeen to celebrate the Italy against Scotland World Cup qualifier back in September.
