The World's Largest Potato Wedge?

World's Largest Potato Wedge

After months of training, progressing from local heats and a regional qualifying competition, this potato wedge from Lancashire was proclaimed the triumphant UK National Winner of the 2007 Britain's Largest Potato Wedge Competition, at a tense final in Milton Keynes at the weekend.

Beating off stiff competition from around the country, the winning trainer Spud Murphy, was proud to accept the acclamation of his fellow "Wedgies" - as they are known in the industry.

"We searched long and hard for the perfect wedge, one that met all the criteria for length and breadth, before finally coming across this one in a bag several months ago. When we opened the bag, it just jumped out at us. We felt like Charlie Bucket finding the Golden Ticket in the Wonka Bar. We knew it would be a Winner"

And its now all systems go for the winning team as they fly off to Las Vegas where it will represent the UK at the biennial World Potato Championships next month, where they will compete for the coveted title of The Largest Potato Wedge in The World.

We wish them luck!
