COLIN Helsby thought he had a head for business, when he had a slice of pizza tattoo'd on his head in March 2007 to both raise money for Cystic Fibrosis and to promote the launch of his new pizza takeaway, Crusties, in Penmaenmawr, Conwy, North Wales.
He had been a butcher for almost 30 years, but competition from supermarkets meant he decided to convert his store into a pizza takeaway.
Colin initially raised over £500 and hoped that donations would continue from customers who came into his shop and saw the tattoo. He hoped that the sight of the Ham & Pineapple pizza would be so mouth-watering that it would drive sales through the roof.
It could not fail. But then it did. Mr Helsby’s business in Wales has unfortunately crashed through lack of – get this – “dough”.
Mr Helsby is now back at his old job as a supermarket butcher. That’s him over there in the pork pie hat.
The Pizzas and Stuff blog is raising money for Special Olympics GB by bringing you the best pizza related stories from around the Web.
